Manolo Blahnik’s Shoes

New Fashion Documentary Lets You Walk In Manolo Blahnik’s Shoes

Mark your calendars, Carries.

Hot on the stylish heels of fashion docs like L’Amour Fou and Dior and I comes Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards, an in-depth portrait of legendary shoe designer Manolo Blahnik. The hands-on Spanish designer became a household name in the late ’90s thanks in part to repeated exposure in HBO’s Sex and the City.

“I can’t remember the last time I wore anybody else’s shoes,” says Vogue editor Anna Wintour in the film’s trailer. “I mean, I don’t even look at them.”

Of course, he doesn’t just make strappy stilettos for SJP wannabes. “His men’s shoes, well, they’re just kind of slightly more feminine versions of the women’s shoes,” actor Rupert Everett jokes.

The trailer also shows the flamboyant 74-year-old designer sharing a laugh with Rihanna, who has collaborated several times with the designer, most recently on the statement footwear featured in her “Wild Thoughts” video.

The directorial debut of British fashion journalist and artist Michael Roberts, Manolo also features chats with famous friends and fans Paloma Picasso, Iman, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Isaac Mizrahi, and André Leon Talley.
